Saturday night:
blah, blah...We were so tired, but happy, and started showering and getting ready for bed. Carter was in the shower when all of a sudden we heard loud yelling and screaming. Charlie, Angie, and I waited a minute to see if one of the kids was goofing off, but it kept going, and got worse. It was awful. Then we all 3 ran up the stairs, and it was Carter. He fell getting out of the shower, right on his knee, and broke his patella (knee cap) in half. When we saw the x-ray there were about 2 inches between the halves. It looked awful. I stayed downstairs at first, but when Mike came down looking grey in the face and needing water, I went up and stayed with Carter until the ambulance came. I guess I was so scared that they would hurt him again that I got sick and woozy then and went downstairs myself needing water. It was so traumatic. Abby was crying; Coleson and Will were shook up; Lauren was in the other shower and heard all the noise but didn't know what was going on and was afraid for her life. Angie reminded us that God has given us everything we need for this situation. We all sat up until Charlie and Mike got home and some details figured out. Went to bed around 2. Carter is going to have surgery. He spent the night at the clinic around the corner. I got up and sat with him this morning, while the students went to a rural church and led the service, and Mike and Charlie worked on getting Carter taken care of and insurance stuff. We almost didn't go to the service, but Mike didn't want to give the enemy the satisfaction.
Mike and Carter left by ambulance for Nelspruit, South Africa, this evening. The surgery should be tomorrow, and they're supposed to be able to come home 10-14 days later. I'm hoping (praying) that they get to leave even sooner. I was very emotional this afternoon after Mike called Carter's parents, and again when they left. We haven't heard from them yet, and not being able to communicate is going to be so hard.
The other students and I leave tomorrow on our 2-day trip home. I never dreamed I'd be the one in charge of seeing them home! Please pray for all of us, but especially Carter.

Thanks for letting us know Kecia. We'll be praying for him and Mike as they stay behind and for you and the other kids as you travel home.
